The Chinese accordionist Jingyang Wang, born in 2000, is one of the most exciting artists of a new generation of accordionists thanks to her musically profound and interpretatively original performances.

After completing her Bachelor's degree at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing with Prof. Xiaoqing Cao, Wang is currently continuing her studies in the renowned accordion class of Prof. Grzegorz Stopa at the Music and Art University of the City of Vienna.

Despite her young age, Jingyang Wang has been performing regularly as a soloist and chamber musician on the major concert stages since 2013. In 2013, she was selected by the Ministry of Culture and Education of the People's Republic of China to take part in cultural exchange activities and was sent to Moscow, where she performed the accordion concerto ‘Shehuo’ by Chinese composer Anlun Huang, in an arrangement by Bo Dai, and other solo works with the Russian Presidential Symphony Orchestra. Further solo concerts for classical accordion followed in major concert halls such as the Hong Kong City Hall.

Jingyang Wang's cross-genre and musically open-minded thinking is reflected in her nationwide China tour with the ‘Liu Shanshan Tango Ensemble’ and her participation as an accordionist in the theatre production ‘Momo’ at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing in 2019. In 2021, she joined the Chinese chamber music ensemble ‚ Mirror From New Age’ and performed with the ensemble on the stage of the prestigious jazz house Blue Note.

Jingyang Wang's work also includes premieres of works by renowned pcontemporary composers. In 2022, for example, she performed the four-hour work ‘Ceremony II’ by Georg Friedrich Haas at the Wien Modern Festival at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna and Alban Berg's ‘Wein, Weib und Gesang-Walzer’ together with a string quartet at the Vienna Musikverein in 2023. In March 2024, she performed a concert of works by Rebecca Saunders, one of today's most influential composers, in the Glass Hall of the Vienna Musikverein.

Jingyang Wang has given numerous concerts in major concert halls. She has performed at the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Concert Hall, the Salzburg Kunstverein, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (Beijing), the Guangzhou Grand Theatre, the Changsha Concert Hall, the Zibo Poly Grand Theatre, the Qidong Poly Grand Theatre and many others. As a responsible artist of the young generation in China, she always communicates her ideas and music to a wider audience.

As part of her artistic development, she took part in the masterclass of the Swiss Academy of Music in Arosa in 2023, where she was awarded a scholarship and the Hans Schaeuble Prize. As a result, she performed several times at the Arosa Classical Music Festival. In July 2024, she was invited by the 74th CMA Accordion World Championships to take part in the CMA Academic Series and give a recital.

National and international competition successes and awards complement Jingyang Wang's artistic career. She won first prizes at the 50th International Accordion Competition Klingenthal (DE) and at the 42nd International Accordion Competition in Castelfidardo (IT), with a ‘Special Prize’ in her junior category. In 2023, Wang reached the final of the 30th Arrasate Hiria International Accordion Competition (ESP) and was awarded third prize. Another first prize followed in 2024 at the 4th International Accordion Festival ‘Accordion Art’ in Sarajevo (BIH).

In addition to her artistic presence on stage, Jingyang Wang has released two albums so far: The album ‘Tableaux’ (published by China Record Group Co., Ltd.) is a solo album and features original compositions and transcriptions for the accordion. ‘Imaginative Consciousness’ is a combination of works for accordion solo and chamber music (sponsored by the National Culture and Arts Foundation and published by Feeling Good Music Co., Ltd.).
